West Ham are interested in Mats Hummels

West Ham are considering whether to push for the signing of Mats Hummels, who is a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, according to The Times. The 35-year-old joins Joel Matip, who is also on a free transfer from Liverpool, and John Egan, formerly of Sheffield United, on the Hammers’ shortlist as they consider options to bolster their backline with an experienced full-back. He has previously been linked with Brighton and Hove Albion, as well as Bologna and Real Sociedad. Recently, Hummels is said to be on the verge of joining AS Roma, but the talks have been stalled by his salary which is thought to be a problem. The Serie A side still hope, however, that an agreement can be reached. West Ham have already signed two full-backs this summer. Jean-Clair Todibo joined on loan from OGC Nice and needs just five starts in the Premier League to turn the transfer into a permanent one. Max Kilman has arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers for over £40 million.
